CRAFTY: Daiso Magnetic Paper Dolls

I remember playing with paper dolls growing up.  I'd spend hours changing their outfits, bringing loads of fun for periods at a time.

Now the Daughter has also gotten into the habit of playing with paper dolls.  The thing is, her generation also gets to enjoy them in sticker play set form.  It's easier though, but based on our experience, once you stick it on the background scenes, it's no longer reusable.  What a waste!

So what's a mom to do?  Make magnetic paper dolls, of course!

Materials needed.

Here's what you'll need:
  1. Paper dolls (you can either search for some paper doll templates on the internet or buy those sticker-backed paper dolls.  Ours I bought at Daiso, which comes with 6 dolls and tons of clothes and accessories);
  2. Magnet sheet (Daiso sells them per sheet.  Or better yet, go to select National Bookstore outlets which carry them in sheets of 10.  Believe me, these things are great additions to your craft supplies); and
  3. a sharp pair of scissors.
Instructions?  Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Since we're using sticker-backed dolls, simply stick your dolls and accessory pieces in the magnet sheet.  The pieces do not have to be arranged in any particular order.  Just try to fit in as many pieces as possible, making sure to leave a bit of space in between.

Arrange your pieces with space in between

Most magnet sheets can be printed on.  If this is the case, you can also opt to print out your doll shapes on the magnet paper directly.

Next, get your scissors and cut away.

Finished product

See how easy it is?  They tend to work really well on metal surfaces so I would suggest using an old cookie tin to store all your dolls and accessories in.  The lid can be used for play.

 Crafty, ain't it?!  :)
